A player falling using the Tragic Umbrella and attacking a Target Dummy. Note how fall speed increases while attacking midair.

The Tragic Umbrella is a pre-Hardmode shortsword and held item that can be purchased from the Clothier for 10 GC while in a Graveyard. It functions identical to the standard Umbrella, aside from dealing higher damage.

While held, the Tragic Umbrella appears above the character, allowing them to fall at a slower rate than normal and preventing fall damage. The player can hold ▼ Down to increase the fall speed.

Its best modifier is Legendary.

Notes

  • The Tragic Umbrella can only hit a finite amount of targets per use, determined by its use time (2 targets with long use time and 3 targets with short use time).
  • When attacking with the Tragic Umbrella midair, the player's fall will no longer be slowed for the duration of the attack.
  • Although the Tragic Umbrella's effect is similar to the Featherfall's effect, they are not the same effect and thus can be stacked with each other.[1] However, the Tragic Umbrella only slightly changes the fall speed when paired with the Featherfall effect.

Trivia

  • This item is likely a reference to a funeral umbrella, an umbrella that undertakers use to cover celebrants at a funeral with when it rains. This is due to its appearance and the fact it can only be purchased in a Graveyard.
