The Ice Blade used against Target Dummies.

The Ice Blade is a pre-Hardmode broadsword that is found in Frozen Chests in the Ice biome, Frozen Crates(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions), and Boreal Crates(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions). When swung, it occasionally fires an Ice Bolt projectile that deals the weapon's damage and does not pass through blocks or pierce enemies. The Ice Blade also has a base 6% critical strike chance, as opposed to the usual 4%.

Its best modifier is Legendary.

Notes

• The Ice Bolt projectile has a cooldown of 0.92 seconds.
  • (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) While the cooldown is active, the player can neither switch items, look in another direction, nor use Auto Select, but they can continue swinging the sword.
  • A small particle effect and the sound for restoring mana will notify the player of a recharged Ice Bolt.
• Melee speed will affect the velocity, but not the fire rate of the Ice Bolt.
• On the , this weapon deals 18 damage without modifiers instead of 17. Whether this is intended is unknown.

Trivia

• The Ice Blade makes the same sound effect as the Ice Elemental when its projectile is fired.
• The Frostbrand can be considered its Hardmode upgrade.
