The Nightglow attacking
Mimics.
The Nightglow is a Hardmode, post-Plantera magic weapon that fires four rainbow-colored projectiles which emerge from the player and home in on nearby enemies. Each projectile ricochets off solid blocks and can pierce twice before dissipating on the third hit, but loses 20% of its damage for each enemy struck.[1] The Nightglow has a 1/4 (25%) chance of being dropped by the Empress of Light.
Its best modifier is Mythical.
Notes
- The projectile applies 30 ticks[2] of local invincibility frames upon hit.[3]
- The projectiles can home in on enemies within a 50-tile radius.[4]
- After being fired, there is a 0.5-second delay before the projectile can begin homing in on enemies.
- After this delay has passed, the projectile has a remaining lifetime of 1.5 seconds which ticks down twice as fast when it is not tracking a target.[4] This means that the projectile lasts for 1.25 seconds in total without any targets nearby, or for 2 seconds if it immediately finds a target.
- The weapon is visibly held by the player when selected and provides light.
Trivia
- As the weapons that the Empress of Light drops are based on her attacks, the Nightglow seems to be based on her Prismatic Bolts.
- The Nightglow appears in the video game Palworld as a part of a crossover.
- Like the Last Prism, the Nightglow has secret color themes for developers and beta testers. This is triggered by using a specific set of character names:

- In real life, nightglow (or airglow) is a faint emission of light by the Earth's atmosphere which causes the night sky never to be completely dark.
History
- Desktop 1.4.4:
- Projectiles that are not currently tracking a target linger roughly 50% longer before disappearing.
- Projectiles will have their duration reset to full upon beginning to track a target.
- Desktop 1.4.1:
- Mana cost decreased from 26 to 23.
- Projectiles will now bounce, rather than break, when they come into contact with a block.
