The Musket is a pre-Hardmode gun. It will always drop from the first Shadow Orb destroyed in a Corruption world (along with 100 Musket Balls) and has a 1/5 (20%) chance of dropping from destroyed Shadow Orbs afterward. It also has a 1/5 (20%) chance of being obtained from Corrupt(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) and Defiled Crates(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) fished in the Corruption. The Musket has a base 11% critical strike chance as opposed to the usual 4%.

Its Crimson counterpart is The Undertaker. The Musket deals a much higher damage per shot at a slower fire rate.

Its best modifier is Unreal.

Tips

• The Musket's high damage early in the game, along with its slow fire rate, helps to conserve ammunition, practice precise aiming, and is effective against Eaters of Souls in the Corruption.

Trivia

• The Musket's in-game mechanics differ greatly from its real-life counterpart. Trained soldiers of the 18th century usually took around 12–15 seconds to reload and fire a musket due to it being a muzzeloader, meaning powder and shot needed to be individually loaded from the muzzle and packed down.
• The newer sprite (updated in 1.3.1(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)) more closely resembles a short-barreled musketoon or blunderbuss than a long musket.
• The Musket's tooltip is a direct reference to the opening lyric of the song "Minutemen" from the 1999 album Speakeasy, the third full-length studio album of the Christian rock band Stavesacre.
• The Musket is one of the 11 guns in Terraria based on a real gun, the others being the Chain Gun, Flintlock Pistol, Handgun, Quad-Barrel Shotgun, Red Ryder, Revolver, Shotgun, Sniper Rifle, Tactical Shotgun, and Uzi.
