Using the Flying Dragon to attack Target Dummies. Notice how the projectile pierces walls and four dummies, dissipating upon hitting the fifth.

The Flying Dragon is a Hardmode, post-Golem broadsword that has a 1/4 (25%) chance of being dropped by Betsy during Tier 3 of the Old One's Army event. When swung, it fires red crescent-shaped projectiles every 20 ticks[1][2], which pierce four enemies and dissipate after one second or upon contact with blocks.

Its best modifier is Legendary.

Notes

  • The Hearty Slash projectiles are not affected by melee speed bonuses.
  • Their projectile speed is 82 mph-116 mph depending on how close they are fired diagonally.

Tips

  • Due to its high damage, wide projectile, and piercing properties, the Flying Dragon is a great choice for both single-target damage and crowd control.

Trivia

  • Like the other Old One's Army weapons, the Flying Dragon is a direct reference to the weapon of the same name in Dungeon Defenders 2, due to its implementation as part of a crossover event.
  • The blade's hitbox extends considerably beyond the blade sprite itself, barely exceeding the Breaker Blade in horizontal range by about a pixel, but losing quite a bit in vertical range.

  1. A tick is a time unit countable by the software. Most of Terraria's updating logic happens every tick. A tick has the length of 1/60th of a second, hence there are 60 ticks in a second and 3600 ticks in a minute.
