The Obsidian Swordfish is a Hardmode spear that is obtained via fishing in lava, by using any lava fishing method (including lava bait or Lavaproof Fishing Hook). It also has a 24% critical strike chance, as opposed to the usual 4%.

Its best modifier is Godly or Demonic. Both modifiers increase the average damage output by the same amount. However, Ruthless might be preferred if the player already has very high critical strike chance.

Notes

• Obsidian Swordfish has a maximum range of 6 tiles.^[1]
  • Melee speed bonuses can slightly increase its range, in addition to increasing its attack speed.

Trivia

• Despite having sword in the name, this weapon is not a sword, but a spear.
• It has the highest base critical strike chance of any melee weapon, and the second highest of any weapon, tied with the Sky Fracture, Staff of Earth, and Stellar Tune, and surpassed only by the Sniper Rifle.
