The Spear is a pre-Hardmode spear that has a (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) 1/10 (10%) / (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) 1/8 (12.5%) chance of being found in Wooden Chests that are located on the surface as well as in the underground layer.

Its best modifier is Godly or Demonic. Both modifiers increase the average damage output by the same amount. However, Ruthless might be preferred if the player already has very high critical strike chance.

Notes

• The Spear has a maximum range of approximately 5.05 tiles.^[1]
  • Melee speed bonuses can slightly increase its range, in addition to increasing its attack speed.

Tips

• Its knockback can hold back multiple enemies at once, notably Demon Eyes, Eaters of Souls, and Crimeras.

Trivia

• It cannot be obtained from Wooden Crates, despite the fact that many other similarly rare items found in Wooden Chests can.
