The Chain Gun is a Hardmode, post-Plantera gun that is dropped by Santa-NK1 during the Frost Moon event with a 6.25%–16.67% / 12.5%–50% chance depending on the current wave.[1] When used, it very rapidly fires bullets in a wide spread. It also has a 50% chance not to consume ammunition.

Its best modifier is Rapid. However, Godly may be preferred to save ammo. Due to its low use time, it can only gain modifiers that give a speed boost of 15%, thus it cannot have the Unreal modifier.

Tips

  • Chlorophyte Bullets pair well with the Chain Gun, as their homing ability negates the gun's large spread.
  • With the Rapid or Frenzying modifier, the Chain Gun will gain 25% speed. This happens due to rounding down its already exceptionally low use time (4 to 3). The Godly modifier is better for ammo conservation, at the cost of slightly less damage. DPS for Godly: DPS=(36+bullet-roundup(def/2))*60/4*1.09. The DPS for Rapid: DPS=(31+bullet-roundup(def/2))*60/3*1.04.
  • Because of its extremely high rate of fire, the Endless Musket Pouch should be used in regular combat to save more valuable shots for important boss fights.
  • The Chain Gun is a very good weapon to use if fighting the Dungeon Guardian due to its exceptional fire rate. This is best done with Crystal Bullets, as the shards that they create can damage the Dungeon Guardian multiple times per shot.
