This article is about the enemy from the Snow and Ice biome. For other uses, see
Elemental.
The Ice Elemental is a Hardmode enemy that appears in the Snow biome at night and in the Ice biome at any time. The Ice Elemental slowly hovers towards the player and shoots Frost Blasts which, on
Desktop,
Console, and
Mobile, have a 1/3 (33.33%) chance to inflict the Frostburn debuff for 6 / 12 / 15 seconds.
Notes
- Ice Elementals can only hover about eight blocks off the ground.
- Both the Ice Elementals and their projectiles emit a high amount of light.
- Frost Blasts cannot be destroyed by hitting them, unlike many other orb projectiles.
- Frost Blasts cannot travel through walls.
- Ice Elementals ignore the Shroomite/Vortex armor's set bonus and they can still fire at stealthly/invisible players.
Tips
- Although Ice Elementals have a high range, their projectiles travel slowly enough to dodge them.
Trivia
- Elementals are magical entities who embody or personify a force of nature. Historically, elementals personify one of the four classical elements: earth, water, air, or fire (sometimes plants, and later included aether). In the fantasy role-playing game Dungeon & Dragons, elementals which are fusions and other unconventional elementals have been introduced.
- Unlike most ice-themed enemies, the Ice Elemental can neither inflict the Chilled or Frozen debuffs.
- (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) They instead inflict the Frostburn debuff, and are the only enemy in the game able to do so.
- The
Bestiary entry for the Ice Elemental: "Water elementals become icy when dense strong magicks accumulate in the coldest places. Their frosty shards freeze all."
History
- Desktop 1.4.4: Ice Sickle drop rate increased from 1/180 to 1/100.
