The Wandering Eye is a Hardmode flying enemy that spawns on the surface at night. It behaves like a larger Demon Eye, as it pursues the player, bounces off blocks, and is highly susceptible to knockback. However, when its health is reduced to below 50% (150 / 300 / 450), the Wandering Eye's pupil will peel off and reveal a mouth with a row of sharp teeth, similar to the Eye of Cthulhu's second phase, and gains increased movement speed, but its behavior otherwise remains unchanged. On the Nintendo 3DS
version, it can pass through blocks and becomes completely resistant to knockback in its second form.
Similarly to Demon Eyes, Wandering Eyes will flee when the sun rises before despawning when off-screen.
Notes
- (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) The Wandering Eye drops the Demon Eye Banner.
- Wandering Eyes become much more common during the night of a new moon.[1]
Trivia
- The
Bestiary entry for the Wandering Eye: "That suspicious feeling of being watched may very well come true in the dark of night, when Cthulhu's minions roam the skies."
- This Bestiary entry is shared with the Demon Eye. A separate entry for the Wandering Eye exists in the game files, but it is unused: "Given time to mature, Demon Eyes will continue to grow in size and danger. These ones are old enough that their teeth have come in."[2]
