The Black Slime is a variety of slime that only spawns in the Cavern layer. When a Black Slime attacks, it has a chance to inflict the Darkness debuff, which decreases the radius that light sources will illuminate, making it more difficult to see.

Like most other slimes, the Black Slime will be passive towards any player with the Royal Gel(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) accessory equipped.

On  Desktop,  Console,  Mobile, and 3DS, they can rarely be found carrying bonus drops, which the player receives upon the slime's death.

Notes

• Similar to Mother and Baby Slimes, the Black Slime blends slightly with the background of the Cavern layer, making it difficult to detect. As such, it can often catch players off-guard.

Tips

• A Hunter Potion can be used to detect Black Slimes, as the slime will turn red in the dark.
• Using a Night Owl Potion can counter the Darkness debuff Black Slimes inflict.

Trivia

• It is the only slime that does not drop its own color of Gel.
• Despite Black Slimes inflicting the Darkness debuff, they do not drop the Blindfold.

• The Bestiary entry for the Black Slime: "A simple, gelatinous creature that swallows anything and everything whole! It takes a long time to digest anything."
