- Internal Item ID: 5350 (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
The Faeling is a flying critter which naturally spawns in the Aether. Most critters that come into contact with Shimmer will also transform into Faelings. Faelings can pass through blocks and try to fly away from the player if they get too close.
The Faeling has only 5 health and no defense, and can be damaged by other enemies and players.
The Faeling can be caught with any Bug Net to be carried around in the inventory and released later, or crafted into animated decorative furniture (Faeling in a Bottle). Once crafted, the Faeling cannot be released again, unless the furniture item is de-crafted via Shimmer(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions).

Notes
- If there are no existing Faelings, 2–5 Faelings will spawn immediately when a player enters the Aether, regardless of NPC spawn rates.[1]
- When a stack of critter items is thrown into Shimmer to spawn Faelings, a maximum of 50 items will be transmuted at a time. The rest of the stack will float upwards and can be picked back up after the transmutation.[2]
- The Faelings themselves, Party Bunny, Gold Worm, Gem Bunnies, and Gem Squirrels are the only critters that do not transform into Faelings during a Shimmer Transmutation.
- Gold Worms transmute into Gummy Worms instead.
- Gem Bunnies and Gem Squirrels are transformed into their respective gems.
- The walking variants of Goldfish and Gold Goldfish do not turn into Faelings when they are partially submerged in small amounts of Shimmer. However, doing so while it is not raining, or turning them back into their swimming form by any means will have the same effect as most critters.
Trivia
- The
Bestiary entry for the Faeling: "These scintillating fairy-like creatures are born when animals wander into the glowing depths of a Shimmer pond."
