This article is about the enemy in Granite Caves. For other uses, see
Elemental.
The Granite Elemental is a pre-Hardmode enemy that spawns in Granite Caves and floats towards the player. In Expert Mode, Granite Elementals will occasionally drop to the ground defensively when attacked, making them immune to all damage until they begin hovering again.
Granite Elementals always drop Granite Blocks upon death, like Granite Golems. They can also rarely drop the Night Vision Helmet.
Notes
- Granite Elementals can notice the player as a Ghost if there is one present when they die.
- Only one Granite Elemental can be present in the world at all times.[1]
- When out of sight, the Granite Elemental will move intelligently to reach the player's position. For example, if the player moves upward out of a chasm, the Granite Elemental will follow this action moving according to the player's position.
Trivia
- Elementals are magical entities who embody or personify a force of nature. Historically, elementals personify one of the four classical elements: earth, water, air, or fire (sometimes plants, and later included aether). In the fantasy role-playing game Dungeon & Dragons, elementals which are fusions and other unconventional elementals have been introduced.
- Until 1.3.5, enemies had an unused internal name. The Granite Elemental's name was Grelimental[2], a portmanteau of granite and elemental, in similar style to the Granite Golem's Grolem.
- During the official 1.3 trailer, multiple Granite Elementals can be seen simultaneously, suggesting that their spawn limit was not yet added at the time.
- The
Bestiary entry for the Granite Elemental: "Earth elementals manifest through many forms by taking on the properties of different materials, such as this hardy granite."
