The Goblin Scout is an uncommon pre-Hardmode enemy that spawns on the surface in the farthest edges of the player's world. It looks like an enemy from the Goblin Army event, but it spawns during ordinary gameplay. The Tattered Cloth it drops is a component for the Goblin Battle Standard, which summons a Goblin Army.

Goblin Scouts can only be found in the furthest east and furthest west sixths of the world. They will not spawn on Sand Blocks or on blocks infected by the Corruption, the Crimson or the Hallow and will only spawn during the day.

It is one of the few entities that can be detected by the Lifeform Analyzer(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) or its upgrades.

Notes

Goblin Scouts are able to open doors.
(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) Goblin Scouts can be spawned by activating a Goblin Statue.
If at least one Shadow Orb or Crimson Heart has been destroyed and a Goblin Army has not yet been defeated, they will spawn three times as often.
In Celebrationmk10 worlds Goblin Scouts spawn on surface at least 1/3rd of the world width away from ocean spawn.
In Dont dig up and Get fixed boi worlds Goblin Scouts spawn anywhere in Cavern layer.

Tips

As Goblin Scouts are uncommon, using a Battle Potion and Water Candle in combination is an effective way to get them to spawn.

Trivia

Goblin Scouts have spawning conditions similar to King Slime.

The Bestiary entry for the Goblin Scout: "The Goblin Army sends lone soldiers out from the beaches to seek out colonies to conquer. They give warning with a tattered sigil."
