The Sand Poacher is a Hardmode enemy that spawns in the Underground Desert biome. Following the Spider AI, it will follow and attempt to deal contact damage to the player while also being capable of climbing onto background walls. If the Sand Poacher is climbing on a wall and detects the player within its line of sight, its movement speed increases drastically, making escape more difficult for the player. Upon contact, the Sand Poacher also inflicts the Acid Venom debuff for 4 / 8 / 10 seconds.

Tips

Given that the entirety of the Underground Desert is covered with background walls, the player should always be cautious. Avoiding direct contact with Sand Poachers and other Underground Desert enemies and using minions or weapons that can pass through walls should be helpful in avoiding dangerous situations during the early stages of Hardmode.

Trivia

It resembles a larger version of the Black Scorpion critter.
Sand Poachers can only spawn in pure or Hallowed Underground Desert biomes, and not in Corrupt or Crimson Underground Deserts.
The fact that the Sand Poacher may drop a Fried Egg upon death could be a play on words, as one way to cook eggs is to "poach" them.

The Bestiary entry for the Sand Poacher: "These unnaturally large scorpions have adapted to swiftly pursuing their prey along the walls with their sharp, venomous tails."
