The Paladin's Hammer in action.

The Paladin's Hammer is a Hardmode, post-Plantera boomerang that has a 1/15 (6.67%) / 29/225 (12.89%) chance of being dropped by Paladins in the Hardmode Dungeon. It is thrown at a very high velocity and can pierce an infinite number of enemies, but cannot pass through blocks.

Its best modifier is Godly or Demonic. Both modifiers increase the average damage output by the same amount. However, Ruthless might be preferred if the player already has very high critical strike chance.

Notes

• The Paladin's Hammer can travel for 0.12 seconds before it quickly turns around to return towards the player. This results in having a maximum range of roughly 17.5 tiles.^[1]
  • Melee speed bonuses increase the hammer's velocity, which in turn increases its range.
    • Conversely, liquids will slow down the hammer and reduce its range.
• The Paladin's Hammer has a top speed of 230 mph when returning to the player.
• While the weapon is clearly visible in darkness, it emits no light.

Tips

• The infinite piercing of the Paladin's Hammer makes it very effective against segmented enemies, which it can strike multiple times in one pass.
• The Paladin's Hammer has similar DPS compared to the Possessed Hatchet; however, the former pierces infinitely, has a higher velocity, does not home in on enemies, and has much more knockback.

Trivia

A second Paladin's Hammer can be thrown before the first hammer returns with precise timing.

• The hammer is a common choice of weapon for paladins in many fantasy games, though they are not often thrown.
• The hammer's throwing function is similar to Mjölnir, the magical hammer wielded by the Norse god Thor, which would return to his hand after being thrown.
• This is the only hammer in the game that has no function as a tool, but still activates the "Stop! Hammer Time!" achievement.
• Unlike the projectile thrown by the Paladin, this weapon cannot pass through blocks.
