This article is about the ore. For the biome, see Meteorite (biome).

Meteorite is a pre-Hardmode, post-evil boss ore mined from Meteorite crash sites. A Meteorite crash site is guaranteed to spawn after the Eater of Worlds or Brain of Cthulhu is defeated for the first time.[1] If the boss is defeated between midnight and dawn (12:00 AM – 4:30 AM), then the meteor crashes immediately. Otherwise, it will crash at the next midnight (12:00 AM). Meteorite must be mined using a Tungsten Pickaxe or better.

Contact with Meteorite blocks causes the player to be inflicted with the Burning debuff, unless the player has the Obsidian Skull accessory (or its upgrades) equipped, or is using an Obsidian Skin Potion.

Meteor Heads, which naturally spawn in a Meteorite crash site, have a 1/50 (2%) chance to drop a single piece of Meteorite, though only in pre-Hardmode.

Notes

Tips

  • Turning Meteorite into Meteorite Bars and selling them is 133% more profitable than selling the raw Meteorite itself.
  • If a player places at least 75 pieces of Meteorite, they can create an artificial Meteorite biome, where all enemy spawns are replaced with Meteor Heads.
  • While water and honey will not prevent the damage from Meteorite blocks, they will cancel the On Fire! debuff that Meteor Heads inflict.

Trivia

  • Meteorite, Hellstone, and Luminite are the only ores that do not have "ore" in their names.
  • In real life, meteoric iron was used as the main source of iron metal in ancient cultures.

History

  • Desktop 1.2:
    • Now inflicts the Burning debuff when touched. Previously, the player would take 20 damage and receive invincibility frames when touching the block (similar to Spikes).[2]
    • Increased stack limit from 250 to 999.
    • Now takes fewer hits with a pickaxe to mine. A Nightmare Pickaxe, for example, now takes 2 hits to mine Meteorite instead of 4.
