The Ammo Box is a furniture item. It can be purchased from the Arms Dealer for 10 GC in Hardmode.

Placing and pressing ⚷ Open / Activate on the Ammo Box grants the Ammo Box buff, which provides ranged weapons with a 1/5 (20%) chance per shot not to consume ammunition. This lasts until the player dies or leaves the world. The buff can be canceled at any time by right-clicking the icon (), by selecting the icon using Cycle Next/Previous Buff and then pressing Remove Buff (), or by double-tapping the buff icon ().

Unlike equipment buff items, the Ammo Box must be placed in order to activate the buff. It can be mined with a pickaxe or drill and picked up again, even while the buff is active, which will not cancel the buff. Placement is only dependent on an adequate space of 2×2 tiles being available.

Notes

The Ammo Box can be activated limitlessly with no cooldown period. It is never consumed, and all players may use it to give themselves the buff.
The increased ammo conservation chance from the Ammo Box buff has no effect on consumable ranged weapons.

History

Desktop version

Desktop 1.4.4:
- Stack limit increased from 999 to 9999.
- Is now sold by the Arms Dealer in Hardmode, instead of by the Traveling Merchant at any time.
- Buy price and sell value decreased from 15 GC / 3 GC to 10 GC / 2 GC.
- Buff duration of 10 minutes removed. The buff now lasts until the player dies or leaves the world.
