Water Chests in pools of water underground

Water Chests are a type of Chest that can be found in pools of water greater than 250 tiles, most notably in the Ocean, but more rarely in any body of water, including water lakes anywhere in the Underground and Caverns layers, Surface lakes and very occasionally Floating Lakes. In addition to containing common chest loot based on where they are found, there are special items that can only be found in these chests, listed below.

Notes

Water Chests have the same possible drops regardless of the biome they were generated in.
- Water Chests that spawn in Ocean caves have equal chances of containing every primary item.
The only time Water Chests can spawn in anything other than water is in the Not the bees secret world seed, where most water is replaced with honey.
In the Celebrationmk10 secret world seed, the chance of a Water Chest containing Water Walking Boots is increased to 1/7 (14.29%). Consequently, the chance of containing one of the other primary items is reduced to 3/14 (21.43%) each.

History

Desktop version

Desktop 1.4.4:
- Stack limit increased from 99 to 9999.
- Shark Bait no longer has a 1/10 (10%) chance of being the primary item; changed to secondary loot instead. Increased the chances of the remaining primary items as a result:
  - Increased the chance of containing Water Walking Boots from 9/100 (9%) to 1/10 (10%).
  - Increased the chances of containing a Breathing Reed, Flipper, Trident, or Inner Tube from 81/400 (20.25%) to 9/40 (22.5%) each.

Desktop 1.4.0.1:
- Can now contain the Shark Bait and Inner Tube. Adjusted the chances of the other primary items as a result:
  - Increased the chance of containing Water Walking Boots from 1/15 (6.67%) to 9/100 (9%).
  - Reduced the chances of containing a Breathing Reed, Flipper, or Trident from 14/45 (31.11%) to 81/400 (20.25%) each.
- Can now contain the Sandcastle Bucket as a secondary item.

Desktop 1.3.1: Now used to craft the Trapped Water Chest.

Desktop 1.3.0.1: Can no longer contain the Beach Ball. Previously it had a 7/30 (23.33%) chance of being the primary item. Increased the chances of containing a Breathing Reed, Flipper, or Trident from 7/30 (23.33%) to 14/45 (31.11%) each as a result. The chance of containing Water Walking Boots remains unchanged.

Desktop 1.2.3: Placed storage items can now be renamed.
