The Snake Charmer's Flute is a pre-Hardmode tool that places a pot from which a snake rises. Once the snake reaches its full height of 100 tiles or touches a block, it stops rising and becomes climbable like a rope. Blocks can also be placed next to the snake once it has fully extended. The snake and the pot disappear after approximately 25 seconds, and it also produces a small amount of light. The Snake Charmer's Flute can be found in Sandstone Chests in the top 4/7ths of the Underground Desert and in Oasis Crates and Mirage Crates obtained from fishing in the Oasis.

Notes

  • If any background objects or solid blocks obstruct the pot's path from the player to the cursor's location when the Snake Charmer's Flute is used, it will be placed at the nearest solid block or placed next to or on top of the object closest to the player. This means that it cannot be used directly in front of particularly tall trees, and will sit on top of tall grass, cacti, tree branches, other pots, and the like.

Tips

  • The pot and snake can be summoned in lava where the default variety of rope cannot be placed.
  • This item is a good pre-Hardmode alternative to the Ice Rod for building into the sky, as blocks can be placed next to the snake.
    • Related to that, it is possible to easily climb to the top of the Space layer by alternating between using the flute and placing blocks next to the snake.
      • Using this method makes it very easy to search for floating islands in early pre-Hardmode.
  • It seems that the pot cannot be summoned off-screen. As a result, it cannot be used to lower oneself into a pit.

    • Snake coil now grows substantially faster than before.
    • Maximum height increased from 80 to 100 tiles.
  • Desktop 1.4.0.5: Fixed an issue where Snake Ropes would never vanish if the player who summoned it quit out of the server.
