The Nightmare Pickaxe is a pre-Hardmode, post-Eater of Worlds pickaxe. On the Desktop version Desktop version, Console version Console version, and Mobile version Mobile version, it can mine blocks up to Hellstone, Crimstone Blocks, and Ebonstone Blocks. On the Old-gen console version Old-gen console version and Nintendo 3DSNintendo 3DS version version, the Nightmare Pickaxe can also mine Dungeon Bricks.

Its Crimson counterpart is the Deathbringer Pickaxe. The Nightmare Pickaxe has slightly less pickaxe power and mining speed.

Its best modifier is Legendary. However, due to rounding, Legendary, Light, Deadly, Agile, Quick, and Nasty provide equal boosts to mining speed for this tool.
