On the
Old-gen console version and Nintendo version, if the Merchant is killed, he will only respawn if his spawning conditions are met again, which is an available vacant house and all players in the world having more than 50 SC total between them in their inventories.
He also cannot defend himself against enemies, and can have Finn as a possible name.
