On the Old-gen console version, the Compass is only dropped by Mimics with a 1/7 (14.29%) chance. Instead of displaying the horizontal position of the player in feet, it displays the position in meters (1 meter = 2 tiles).
On the Nintendo version, it is unobtainable (no longer drops, but still exists), and is not functional.
